Our one-on one professional paint less dent removal training at our Gold Coast training facility is a great way to learn a new skill that is in demand and can be utilized virtually anywhere there are car dents to repair.

Unlike traditional apprenticeships that require years of training, paint less dent removal training can be effectively taught within a few short weeks. It’s a profession that can be offered as a ‘mobile’ service, which means low overheads for you and convenience and no location barriers for your clients.

Mobile PDR Tech vs Hail Chasing

Choosing the right training course will depend on whether you want to become a mobile pdr tech or hail chaser.  There are advantages and disadvantages in each situation. Mobile PDR techs generally have low overheads as it unnecessary to have a factory set up. They can also expect consistent work once they are established. Unfortunately mobile techs have less flexibility to chase hail.

On the other hand hail chasers have higher overheads. This is due to expenses such as flights, accommodation and paying a percentage of their income to a panel shop or factory. Depending on the flexibility of the Hail chaser there is the option to only work storms in Australia and work up to 6 months a year or travel worldwide and work in Germany, New Zealand or the United States and work year round. Experienced hail chasers have been known to earn up to $20,000 per week during the peak of the season.

For students interested in becoming mobile PDR techs I would recommend either the 1 week or 2 week training course, depending on your expectations. For the students that are interested in a career as a hail chaser I would suggest the 4 week training course.

Marketing your paintless dent removal business

If you choose to become a mobile pdr tech there are several options listed below for obtaining work

These include:

• Car yards
• Private vehicles
• Car rental agencies
• Panel shops
• Insurance companies
• Fleet companies

If you choose to become a hail chaser many of the above options won’t be suitable. In this case your best chance of quality employment is to network with other members of this industry. Your industry connections can ensure you find work in each storm.

1 Week Training Course 

The purpose of this course is to provide a basic introduction to PDR. This course would be best suited to students who are unsure if they are suited to the industry or to students that have a background in car repair related fields such as panel beating. At the completion of this course it is expected that you will be able to achieve a push to paint finish and repair small dents.

All students will be trained in the following core units:

• Types of dents
• Dent estimating
• Damage Assessment
• Light reading & positioning
• Tool selection
• Panel access
• Interior trim removal
• Dent removal
• Basic glue pulling
• Finishing dents

2 Week Training Course 

The purpose of this course is to provide an intermediate level knowledge of dent removal. This course would be best suited to students interested in becoming mobile pdr techs. At the completion of the course it is expected that you will be able to satisfactorily repair small to medium dents such as shopping trolley dents.

In addition to the core units from the basic course students will also learn the following:

• Sharp dents
• Heavy creases
• Bodyline dents
• Ridges
• Repair of large panel dents

For this course we recommend the Dent World Intermediate Package from PDR tools

4 Week Training Course 

The purpose of this course is to provide advanced level knowledge of dent repair. This course would be best suited students interested in opening their own dent repair shops or hail chasing. At the completion of this course it is expected that students be able to repair large dents and hail damage.

In addition to the units from the basic and intermediate courses students will also learn to remove complex dents and creases. Students participating in this course will also be taught how to remove the remaining 10% of a dent.
